Our doulas

Jenny Anderson, doula

Jenny Anderson

“I have deep respect for scientific research and evidence-based information; however, I value kindness, compassion, and empathy, above all. I strive to listen to the unique needs of each client and respect cultural differences and family dynamics.

I am a mother to three amazing children and went through a stillbirth. Losing my son was extremely difficult, however that experience ultimately made me a better woman, wife, and mother.

What I love about being a doula is helping families find their own way with their babies - bringing confidence, peace, laughter, and love from all angles.”

When she is not caring for others, Jenny enjoys riding horses, playing beach volleyball, adventuring with her family, nerding out on history, eating good food, and drinking fine wine.

Megan Joens

“ I believe that women are amazing, powerful beings that have been delegated the awesome task of bringing life into this world. My goal as a Birth Doula is to assist these women, and their families, to have the birth they desire; to rid them of any fears, or uncertainty, that they may have so that they can feel empowered by this journey that they have embarked on.”

Megan Joens, a born and raised Bendite (gasp, they do exist!), recently rekindled her passion for supporting families and serving others through the birthing and postpartum journey. After her most recent birth journey with her third child, she began to work as a Student Doula in pursuit of her Oregon State Traditional Healthcare Worker (THW) certification as a Birth Doula to better support and serve Oregon families.

Megan not only advocates for her clients, but also advocates for the entire community surrounding the childbirth process. She strives to hold a safe, judgment free, space for her clients to experience the birth of their dreams while being fully supported and heard, with a primary focus of empowering mothers, and their families, to be their own strongest advocate. Her experience as a mother and a doula brings peace, wit, adaptability, and serenity to the birth process for families.

Katrina boswell

Katrina is passionate about educating women and their partners about physiological birth, non-drug comfort measures in labor, and true informed consent in the hospital. She believes that labor and birth are mental as much as physical - and she strives to ensure that mom and partner feel safe, relaxed, and empowered leading up to, during, and after delivery. Katrina lovingly prepares her clients for the varying stages of labor with calm energy and confidence.

She loves nurturing and nourishing moms postpartum with healing foods, breastfeeding support, and listening to mom as she processes her birth and the initial postpartum period. She is in heaven whenever she gets to snuggle a squishy newborn baby while mom takes a nap, a hot shower, interacts with older siblings, or disappears into a book for a while.

Katrina has had 3 babies of her own. She has experienced planned homebirth, birth center birth, and hospital birth (at St. Charles, Bend). She currently works at Bend Birth Center as the Office Manager, and trained Birth Assistant. She completed her DONA Postpartum Doula training in February 2020 and her DONA Birth Doula training in October 2022. She is certified as a Traditional Healthcare Worker in the State of Oregon.

When Katrina is not at work or at a birth, she can be found driving her kids around, walking her Aussiedoodle pup, taking a yoga class, or in the mountains!

Heather Helmy, rdn

“I care deeply about the intersection of science, health education, and postpartum care. Families need thoughtful and attentive care as they transition into parenthood, and it is an honor to be included in their journey.

My work as a postpartum doula is all about companioning the birthing parent to ensure they are supported, nourished, and given the space they deserve to recover from pregnancy and childbirth.

I am a mother to two amazing young men who required extra care and support upon entering this world. Sometimes parenthood tosses you in unexpected directions, and these experiences taught me how to “find the helpers!”

I have worked in clinical care as a Registered Dietitian and volunteered in numerous capacities to support the health and well-being of young families. In addition to postpartum care, you will find me working at Athleta in Bend, a job I love and have had since the store opened in 2017.

When not caring for others, I am often cozied up with a good book and a cat or two on my lap. I love sharing meals with friends and family, exploring vibrant cities, and collecting cookbooks.”

Terry platner

“I love the ability to bring a sense of comfort and confidence to parents who would love some much needed time to catch up on recovery. It’s a special kind of rest when parents relax without any worries, while their sweet little one is being taken care of with all of the knowledge, care and compassion that I can give.

When I am not working caring for these little ones, I am spending time with family and learning how to enjoy being an empty nester now that my three children are out of the house. There are many new adventures ahead in this new phase in my life -  every day is a wonderful adventure!”
